CAMI Applauds CMS Action Accelerating Medicaid Modernization, Praises Policy Team and CMCS Leadership
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE — Washington, DC The Center for Accountability, Modernization and Innovation (CAMI) applauds today’s Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announcement mobilizing substantial no‑cost and discounted technology support to help states modernize eligibility, enrollment, and related Medicaid systems.
The CMS initiative is intended to be an outcomes based catalyst that will speed upgrades, cut long‑term costs, and improve the beneficiary experience by addressing one of the longstanding barriers to efficient processes and implementation. It is rare to see an effort that will serve both beneficiaries and the taxpayer alike.
The leadership team deserves special recognition for its sustained leadership in shaping an implementation blueprint that translates complex requirements into clear steps:
Dan Brillman, Deputy Administrator of CMS and Director of the Center for Medicaid and CHIP Services (CMCS), for framing this effort as both a modernization push and a direct enhancement of beneficiary experience as states implement new requirements;
Grant Thomas, Senior Advisor at CMCS, for aligning state needs with CMS’s modernization pathway; and the continuity and operational muscle provided by CMCS’s senior team,
Principal Deputy Director Caprice Knapp, across guidance, vendor engagement, and state readiness.
With community engagement requirements taking effect by January 1, 2027, CAMI is eager to see a disciplined rollout with clear milestones, transparent reporting, and predictable support so states can move from planning to production on an aggressive but achievable cadence. We encourage near-term announcements that rapid publication of implementation playbooks and regular public briefings that can keep stakeholders aligned while strengthening trust with states and beneficiaries.
CAMI stands ready to support leaders nationwide with implementation guidance, performance metrics, and governance frameworks that sustain momentum beyond initial deployment and turn this compliance moment into a durable modernization leap.
